CBD: Its Uses

By Jessica Cantrell

In recent years, cannabidiol has gained prominence for its beneficial effects on health. In Brazil, the substance can be sold only with the approval of Anvisa, and most of it is imported. According to a survey by Logcomex in 2021, between January and November, US$ 5,450,791.00 of cannabidiol oil was imported.

But do you know exactly what this substance that is growing in the market is and what it is used for? Follow the article below and understand the details.

What is cannabidiol and what is it used for?

Cannabidiol, better known by its acronym CBD, is used in the treatment of several psychiatric or neurodegenerative diseases because of its antidepressant, anxiolytic, and therapeutic effects.

The substance is one of the active ingredients obtained from the hemp plant, also known as hemp. Unlike the plant’s best-known active ingredient, delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), CBD has no narcotic effect.

How does CBD work?

CBD acts on CB1, CB2, and other non-cannabinoid receptors, such as 5-HT1A, amplifying its anxiolytic effect. It has the same metabolic precursor as THC and is the main cannabinoid found in CBD strains with low THC levels.

CBD strongly reduces some of the effects such as memory loss, nervousness and disorientation. Besides its analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anxiolytic, and antidepressant effects, it also reduces anxiety symptoms and has relaxing effects.

How is it administered?

The best known form is CBD oil, used for its effective and rapid action on the body, given by sublingual ingestion. It can also be used in food. But we can also find CBD on the market in capsules, sprays, and body creams or oils.

It is worth pointing out that there is no single right way of administering CBD. Although cannabidiol oil is the best known, it is the medical indication that should always prevail.

Benefits of Cannabidiol Oil (CBD)

CBD, whether presented in the form of flowers, oil, or food products, has no narcotic effect. Furthermore, cannabidiol oil has several benefits and has therapeutic potential for the treatment of psychiatric or neurodegenerative diseases.

However, it is always important to remember that more complete studies proving the positive effects of CBD are still lacking. Although there are already several researches, there is still no official and definitive position on its effects.

What are the effects of cannabidiol?

As we mentioned earlier, CBD is recognized for its anxiolytic and antidepressant properties, acting on certain receptors linked to pain and anxiety.

Also, cannabidiol is believed to have therapeutic properties. Therefore, it is recommended in case of stress, sleep problems, or joint pain.

In addition, the market is expected to soon present results of long-term studies necessary for a more precise quantification of the effects caused by CBD and the appropriate doses for therapeutic use. Click to find out more information on CBD in this link.
