The Benefits of CBD

By Jessica Cantrell

In recent times you have surely heard about CBD, but it is actually not something new and has been with us for thousands of years. It has many medical applications. That’s why we want to talk to you about what CBD is and what its benefits are – read on to find out more!

What is CBD?

CBD stands for cannabidiol, this is one of more than 100 cannabinoids in the hemp plant, which are chemical compounds. The proportion in which it is found will depend on the strain of the plant.

CBD is not psychoactive, as is Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) which is the main psychoactive component of hemp, causing the feeling of getting high. These two are the most prevalent chemicals in the plant.

CBD is extracted from a form of the hemp plant, called hemp, which contains small or minimal proportions of THC.

This difference is what makes CBD such an appealing option for those seeking relief from pain and other symptoms, without the mind-altering effects of hemp, or other side effects of pharmaceutical drugs.

CBD works on receptors in the brain, but not those that induce psychoactive effects.

One of the most common forms of consumption is CBD oil, which is obtained by extracting this component from the hemp plant and then diluting it in an oily medium, such as coconut or hemp seed oil. You can find it in many products, such as food supplements, soaps, beverages, and foods and you can even buy cbd flowers.

Differences between CBD and THC

-THC is psychoactive and CBD is non-psychoactive, i.e. it does not get you high.
-THC comes from the hemp plants, and CBD typically comes from hemp, although it can also come from hemp.
-Both CBD and THC have a similar chemical structure to the endocannabinoids found in the body, these are neurotransmitters that act in the brain.

Are CBD and hemp the same thing?

Not necessarily. Although the names are used interchangeably, CBD oil could refer to hemp seed oil, which is used for cooking, making foods, and skin care products.

Whereas CBD oils are made from the leaves, buds, and flowers of the hemp Indica or hemp plant, which must contain less than 0.3% THC.
